RT PCR Test
Procedure: Throat and / or Nose Swabbing
What is RT PCR Test?
RT-PCR i.e. real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test is commonly used and a most sensitive test for detecting Covid-19 infection. It is a process that repeatedly copies and amplifies the specific genetic fragments of the virus, ensuring that there is enough of a sample to conduct the analysis.
Coronaviruses have RNA (Ribonucleic acid) as their genetic material. For Covid-19 testing RNA is first converted into DNA using an enzyme. Then the patient sample along with Primer (a small pieces of DNA designed only to bind to the selected DNA sequence of the SARS-CoV-2’s viral genome) and probe (fluorescent dye) is left in the PCR machine for the binding process to take place. A fluorescent signal marks the presence of the virus.
Our Phlebotomist takes a simple swab from a person’s throat or nose.
Antibody Test
Procedure: Blood Sample
What is Antibody Test?
In order to fight against & clear Coronavirus, body’s immune system produces Covid antibodies (i.e. IgM & Ig G antibodies which may last for several months in the body). So, the Coronavirus antibody testing, also known as serology testing, helps in detecting these antibodies which your immune system might have formed against the virus.
For Covid 19 Antibody Test – Our Phlebotomist takes a blood sample, usually by drawing blood from a vein in the arm. Then the sample is tested to determine whether you’ve developed antibodies against the virus.
Rapid Antigen Test
Procedure: Throat and / or Nose Swabbing
What is Rapid Antigen Test?
The Covid 19 Antigen Test helps in detecting a specific protein (i.e. Spike Protein) in the virus that evokes the body’s immune response. The advantage of rapid antigen test is that it is done rapidly and the results that are positive will be positive.
Our Phlebotomist takes a simple swab from a person’s throat or nose.
Note: if a person tests negative through Covid-19 antigen testing, they still need to get an RT-PCR test done for confirmation. If a person tests positive, however, a confirmation RT-PCR is not required.

The incubation period for Covid-19 virus ranges from 2 -14 days following exposure. While the symptoms appear approximately 4 -5 days after the exposure.
What are the symptoms of Covid-19 infection?
Most common symptoms – fever, dry cough and tiredness
Less common symptoms: aches and pains, sore throat, diarrhea, conjunctivitis, headache, loss of taste or smell a rash on skin, or discoloration of fingers or toes
Serious symptoms: difficulty breathing or shortness of breath, chest pain or pressure and loss of speech or movement
Why is Covid-19 Test Required?
